The University of Bristol and the Office for National Statistics formally establish a working collaboration in data science

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed as formal recognition of the professional and academic expertise within the University of Bristol and the Office for National Statistics (ONS), and the shared commitment to improve data science research and innovation.  Data science is a rapidly emerging discipline drawing expertise from multiple sectors, industries and academic pathways. We share a vision to create global impact to data science through research, training and leadership.

This MoU establishes a working relationship between our two organisations, which will allow us to develop collaborative activity and look for synergies to support this shared vision.  Initiated by the Jean Golding Institute and ONS colleagues, the MoU provides a framework for supporting activities in disciplines across the university and for all staff active in developing the field of Data Science to build shared knowledge and expertise in a collaborative format.

The key principles of the relationship will be:

  • A shared desire to improve the status of Data Science
  • To develop research, innovation and additional capacity in the field of Data Science
  • To work collaboratively between the organisations
  • To share research and resources to improve knowledge

Dr Tom Smith, Managing Director of the Data Science campus at ONS, spoke about developing partnerships in data science at the Jean Golding Institute Showcase 2018. Information about opportunities to engage in this partnership will be available on our website very soon.
